LUIS MARTINEZ ON TRACK TO MAKE HIS NASCAR NATIONWIDE SERIES DEBUTSophomore driver will be doing Midwest double duty this weekend Martinez's debut in the NASCAR Nationwide Series aboard the # 39 King Taco Ford is an exciting step in the young racer's career. The opportunity to race with Go Green Racing came as a result of a discussion with Clinton Cram, who served as Martinez's Sunrise Ford teammate Rod Johnson Jr's Crew Chief. Cram also serves as Go Green Racing's crew chief. The chance to race with Go Green Racing at Iowa Speedway was an opportunity Martinez could not ignore. He will attempt to make the field on Saturday, the same day he will also qualify and race in his regular NASCAR K&N Pro Series West entry, setting up what will be a very busy and hectic day for the 21 year old. "I'm really excited for my first NASCAR Nationwide Series start! For the past 3 years this is what I've been practicing for. I think I have a great shot to do well with the Go Green Racing team", states an excited Martinez. Go Green Racing's Team Owner Archie St. Hilaire is excited at the opportunity to work with a NASCAR up and comer like Martinez. "Go Green Racing welcomes Luis Martinez Jr. We have a history of working with up and coming young drivers rising up the ranks of the NASCAR series and we are looking forward to racing with him this weekend," states St. Hilaire. "Luis was highly recommended by our Crew Chief Clinton Cram, who has worked with him in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West and is looking forward to working with him in Iowa." Though he will be making his NASCAR Nationwide Series debut in Iowa, Martinez will also be taking the #6 King Taco/Sunrise Ford /Lucas Oil Ford entry to Iowa to compete in the 4th race of the K&N Pro Series West season. He arrives with 423 points, putting him 5th in the Championship standings out of 54 competitors. Martinez has enjoyed a top-10 finish at every event thus far this season, including his season best finish of 6th at the last event, the Larry H. Miller Dealerships Utah Grand Prix. Last year's Iowa performance, in which the Pico Rivera, CA resident qualified in the 23rd spot and finished in the 26th (8th in the West field), was marred after an early race on-track incident in which he was unfortunately caught up. This weekend, Martinez is looking forward to improving his fortunes at the .875-mile tri-oval race track located in Newton, Iowa, just 30 miles east of Des Moines. "After having a couple of very tough races, I'm hoping to get over our bad luck streak at Iowa. We didn't do very well there last year but we have made some changes and think we will be very competitive this year. The Sunrise Ford team has done an amazing job at prepping all of the cars this year and I hope to make them proud this weekend," exclaims Martinez On Saturday the NASCAR Nationwide qualifying will take place at 3:40 pm MST, followed by NASCAR K&N Pro NASCAR K&N Pro Series East/West qualifying at 5:10 pm MST. The Pro Series Combo race will take place at 7:00 pm MST. |
